Can You Travel with CBD?

All natural CBD is increasingly being used for the range of health benefits it offers, but many people are still confused about whether or not it’s legal to use CBD for medicinal as well as recreational purposes. CBD from Hemp and Marijuana 

CBD is one of the many naturally occurring compounds found in hemp and cannabis. It is the non-intoxicating component of the plant and can’t result in a high for individuals using it. This, however, is only true when the extraction happens from hemp plants that contain under 0.3 of THC or tetrahydrocannabinol, not when it is extracted from marijuana. This minimal THC content when extraction occurs from hemp doesn’t have intoxicating side effects. Legality 

According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), hemp-derived CBD products that contain less than 0.3% THC have been made federally legal as per the Farm Bill that was passed in December 2018. This Bill amended the Controlled Substances Act so that hemp would be exempted from THC and marijuana as long as it’s sourced according to the new regulations. There are, however, some restrictions and regulations governing traveling with high quality CBD.

Domestic Travel

If you’re traveling across state borders, federal law permits you to carry hemp-derived CBD that has less than 0.3% THC content, subject to the restrictions described above. There are, however, differences in the law for different states that you need to pay attention to when you’re traveling. Be sure to do your research on the legal status of CBD in different states before you embark on your journey so that you don’t find yourself in a fix. International travel is a little trickier because some countries have extremely strict drug laws, even for oils derived from hemp. While you can research the laws of the country you’re traveling to and make a decision, you’d be better off leaving your CBD products behind.
